Message Notes

Notes from I Will Be With You:

The Baptism of the Lord - Luke 3:15-17, 21-22

  1. Luke does not go into detail about Jesus' baptism merely saying that it happened.
  2. Luke pays more attention to John the Baptist's words.
    1. John says that Jesus will separate the grain from the husks.
    2. This isn't about bad people vs good people nor about heaven and hell.
    3. We all have good qualities and bad.
    4. The grace of Jesus is transformative, but sometimes that can be difficult, even painful.
  3. Everything has its season.
    1. When the season is over, there are things to retain (the grain) and things to let go of (the husks)
  4. If we cling to the husks, wanting to hold on to the season past, then we cannot experience the new growth of the next season.
  5. Baptism symbolizes our intention to let Jesus clean off our husks so we can be renewed as a new creation.

What things, ideas, behaviors, or traditions are preventing you from experiencing what God has in store for the next season?
